A Visit to the Georgetown Market

I’ve made it no secret that I wish Atlanta had a Dean & DeLuca. We do have a small specialty market, but I find it more expensive than the SoHo branded market and quite frankly not enough options for the amount of retail space they occupy. It’s definitely nice, but not quite the Dean & DeLuca I relish walking into in my current city.

Fortunately, I split my time between Atlanta and D.C. which means I have the luxury of zipping into the northwest corridor of the Capitol city, fight for a parking space and hurry into the Georgetown store.

During the Thanksgiving holiday, I treated my dad and myself to a stroll in the historic neighborhood, having to bribe him first with buying him wine. We got to the corner of M St. and moseyed our way into the shop. My intention was to make a beeline for the bakery, but couldn’t help drooling over the lovely and almost fake looking kumquats. I passed on them only because I knew I wanted to walk out with chocolate something. I needed instant gratification. In contrast to the SoHo store, the produce selections here are much more streamlined, but still good enough to make a fresh meal. The haas avocados were especially pretty, but not quite ripe for immediate consumption.

Read more about my visit to the lovely Georgetown market in this week’s Dean & DeLuca column here.

Eat well, love unapologetically, pray with true intention, and take care of yourself.
